Imagine a world without pasta? Yep, neither can we!

Pasta is not just delicious and one of our favourite dishes to eat in the world; it is also an extraordinary, good, healthy, nutritious, accessible and sustainable food. Additionally, it is recognised as an Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity by UNESCO.

Oodles of Noodles

Pasta comes in a wide variety of shapes and sizes and can also come stuffed. It’s been estimated that there are approximately 350 different types of pasta and 4 times as many names with language, dialect and regional differences contributing. No matter the name or shape, pasta is a delicious meal, synonymous with Italy, and we believe it is always sure to please everybody.

Give me 5 good reasons to love pasta!

As if the above were not enough, consider the following 5 great reasons to love pasta, courtesy of www.pastaforall.info:

  1. Pasta is good for you and the planet – Pasta is one of the least environmentally intensive foods to produce, especially when compared to meat and dairy. Try a one-pot pasta to save energy, water and clean up time.
  2. Pasta: Pillar of the Mediterranean Diet – Eat pasta for the health benefits of the scientifically proven Mediterranean Diet. Combine with other elements of the Mediterranean Diet to manage weight and lower risk of heart disease, certain cancers, diabetes and other chronic diseases.
  3. Pasta helps keep you full – Pasta is digested slowly, providing steady energy and a prolonged feeling of fullness. Pasta cooked “al dente” has a low Glycemic Index (GI) with a better impact on blood sugar.
  4. Pasta does not make you fat – Eat a healthy portion: 80g of uncooked pasta. Fill out your plate with fiber-filled vegetables, heart healthy olive oil and lean sources of protein like fish or beans.
  5. Pasta is tasty and brings people together – Pasta is simple, nutritious, accessible and convenient. Enjoy a delicious pasta meal surrounded by friends and family (and a nice glass of wine!)

World Pasta Day

World Pasta Day is an annual event organized by the IPO (International Pasta Organisation) and has been celebrated on 25 October yearly since 1998. As such, 2018 heralds the 20th Anniversary of World Pasta Day.

Here’s what Perth food blogger Take Me To Foodie Heaven had to say about this dish:

“We had the Taglierini e Crab which comprises of blue swimmer crab, cherry tomato and chilli in shellfish sauce. The pasta was cooked perfectly to al dente and there was an abundance of crab meat in sight. It’s delicious with each twirl of pasta exhibiting a great flavour of spice, flavourful shellfish sauce and juicy burst in your mouth cherry tomato. Simply fantastic and fabulous!”
